Working in Denmark

Drink a (cultural) cup of coffee with an international IDA member

Do you have experience with working and living in Denmark – and would you like to share your insights and knowledge with an international IDA member? Then sign up for a cultural coffee meeting, where you can share your knowledge and (perhaps) answer questions and provide perspectives on working life in Denmark.

Share your experience of working in Denmark

At IDA, we know that being an expat comes with a lot of questions, and sometimes it can be hard to know where to start looking for answers. To provide international IDA members with an informal space for asking about all the things they're wondering about life in Denmark and working at a Danish workplace, we have created cultural coffee meetings where international IDA members can sign up for a (cultural) coffee meeting with another IDA member.

Here, members can learn more about what it is like to work in Denmark, what (cultural) challenges they might face, or other thoughts they might have about how things are done in Denmark. It can be anything from the way people collaborate at the workplace to how they communicate with their manager and colleagues, or other things that might feel very different from what they are used to.

And we are currently looking for both Danish and international IDA members who would like to help others feel at home in Denmark - maybe you're up for it? You can learn more about expectations and how to sign up on this page. And if you the one with all the questions - and would like to be matched with an experienced member, you can read more via the link below:

What you can expect if you sign up

And what do you get out of it? By participating in a coffee meeting, you get the opportunity to share your own experience and perspective on working life in Denmark – just as you help other international IDA members feel more comfortable in Denmark. Maybe you have experience working internationally and remember what it is like to build a life in a different culture with a “strange” way of doing things – or you are simply curious about how others view some of the things you might take for granted in your work life.

If you sign up, you agree that we may match you with an international IDA member who has also signed up for a (cultural) coffee meeting. You will be matched with a maximum of one person and can decide whether you have the time (and desire) to meet physically or virtually/online. When you are matched, during the coffee meeting, the international member can ask you their questions and present some of the things they might wonder about or find difficult to understand.

What do we expect from you?

You are not a job consultant, and there are no expectations that you will find the person a job or simply open your network to them. At the same time, there is no expectation that you have extensive professional expertise or experience working cross-culturally – but we expect that you are willing to share your own experiences, reflections, and insights on working in a Danish context.

We hope you are curious about what the international member experiences – and you are welcome to provide tips and tricks, which it is then up to your match to try out if they see fit. Naturally, we also expect you to respond to the message you will receive from the international IDA member you are matched with.

Note:

  • Coffee meetings can be either in-person or virtual (you can choose your preference when signing up)
  • There is only one meeting per match (thus you are not signing up for a long-term process with the other member)
  • The meeting will last about one hour, and you agree on the date and time yourselves
  • The international member is the proactive one at the meeting

How to sign up

You sign up for the (cultural) coffee meeting at the bottom of the page by filling out the registration form here:
