IDA Election

Your Guide to Getting Elected

The IDA Election 2025 is approaching, with the crucial period from March 21 to April 7. This guide will help you maximise your visibility and chances of success.

Making a strategy for your key issues and campaign

Identify Your Key Issues

  • Understand your list's key issues: Start by familiarising yourself with the issues your political list is advocating for.
  • Personal priorities: Select the key issues that resonate most with you personally and translate them into concrete and clear messages that you are passionate about. Consider how the key issues can be tailored to specific groups as your region or workplace

Tip: The more relevant your key issues are to your audience, the greater impact your message will have.

Know Your Voter Group

  • Identify Your Voters: Determine who your list’s typical voters are and where to find them.
  • Communication Strategy:
    • Focus on members with similar interests or work areas.
    • Use social media platforms where you are already active and connected to potential voters.

Define Your Level of Engagement

  • Clarify Your Goals: Decide if you are aiming for a serious campaign or supporting the list’s overall effort.
  • Plan Your Involvement:
    • Discuss tasks with your list coordinator.
    • Assess your time commitment realistically.

Sharing Your Opinions

As a candidate for a political list, you need to decide how to communicate your messages—both in person and digitally. It is crucial to show that you are passionate about your key issues. You can do this by sharing and commenting on debate posts or interesting reports related to your cause. Be specific about the difference you want to make.

Remember to tailor your campaign to the platforms where your voter group is active. If you’re unsure where to start, ChatGPT can provide valuable assistance.

Be accessible. It’s a good idea to make it easy for voters to get in touch with you.

With a strong strategy and clear messaging, you can strengthen both your personal campaign and your list's overall success in the IDA Election 2025.

Key Election Periods and framework

  • Visibility: March 14 to April 7
  • Voting: March 21 to April 7
  • Regional and professional general assemblies: Starting February 1

The Election Committee will ensure broad attention through:

  • Social media presence
  • A live debate between lists
  • An election newspaper published with Ingeniøren, featuring presentations of all lists
  • An election test to help members find their preferred list
  • A dedicated election zone on ing.dk

Campaigning at IDA Events and in the Workplace

IDA’s many member events, as well as your workplace, are excellent opportunities to inform people about the IDA election and promote your list and candidacy. For example, you can show your affiliation with your list by wearing specific clothing, pins, etc.

Campaigning can take place one-on-one before a meeting/event begins, during breaks, over meals, or after the event concludes—but not during the meeting or event itself. After the meeting ends, you may invite participants to stay a little longer to learn more about the election. Note: This is a possibility, not a right. The venue may be booked for another event afterward, and you must vacate the space if requested to do so.

At some events, a designated table may be set up for lists to display their materials. If no such table is available, the rule is that you may only distribute materials one-on-one.

What you can and cannot do when campaigning at IDA events or in your workplace

  • You are not allowed to set up roll-ups or hang posters at IDA events.
  • You may not place materials inside meeting rooms or on buffet tables outside the rooms.
  • If campaigning at a member event, respect the event’s purpose and identity.

Important Note:
If you are a candidate in the election and also serve as a volunteer or elected representative in IDA (e.g., as a meeting leader), it is crucial to separate these roles. You must not promote your candidacy or list during an IDA event while acting as a meeting leader.

Guidelines for conduct

We all have a role in ensuring the election remains respectful and fair. Please remember to show mutual respect toward other candidates and members during the campaign.

How to Campaign on Social Media

Social media is a powerful tool for reaching potential voters if you use it correctly.

Here’s what you can do as a candidate:

  • Use your personal social media accounts and your list’s social media channels. It is a good idea to coordinate your campaign efforts with your list coordinator.
  • Share posts or create posts that link to relevant content from:
    • IDA’s social media posts
    • Posts by professional and regional communities
    • Posts by IDA employees

Keep in mind:
If you connect with members on social media with the aim of encouraging them to vote for you, you must make your intentions clear when initiating the connection. For example, on LinkedIn, you can use the comment field to state that you are connecting to discuss the IDA election.

What You Are NOT Allowed to Do on Social Media

  • You may not promote yourself or your list by commenting directly on IDA’s posts or on posts by IDA employees. Instead, share the post and add your comments to the shared content.
  • You may not use email addresses from board lists, participant lists, or membership lists at workplaces to establish connections or promote your candidacy.

Make the election visible - order the IDA election Kit

The Election Committee has prepared an election kit (postcards in UK and DK and chocolates) that everyone can order and use to create awareness about the election.

How to use the election kit:

  • It is primarily intended for use during the visibility period (March 14 to April 7).
  • You can order it at mark-on.dk/ida-shop and have it delivered the week before March 14. Use it at your workplace or IDA events.
  • At events with administrative staff, they will ensure postcards and chocolates are available.

Early events:
If you need the kit for general assemblies before March 14, make sure to specify this when placing your order.

Good Luck with Your Campaign!
