How to ensure a good work-life balance throughout your PhD

How to ensure a good work-life balance throughout your PhD
How good are you at taking care of yourself and obtaining a good work-life balance during you PhD project? Are you able to navigate when things get hectic? Do you know how to identify, prevent, and tackle stress or would you like to get better at it?

Writing a PhD can be stressful, lonely, and competitive. It can provide little space and time for creating professional and social networks and many PhD students struggle with few resources and pressure/limited support from their employer/university/professor. This can have serious implications for your psychological wellbeing. Therefore, it is a good investment to learn to identify stressors and strategies for dealing with them. This is what we will focus on in the workshop “How to ensure a good work-life balance throughout your PhD”

The workshop will:

  • Address some of the most common challenges for PhD students
  • Give you a better understanding of what stress is and how to deal with it
  • Provide you with concrete tools to develop navigation strategies and prevent/minimize stress in your everyday life.
  • Give you an opportunity for sharing experience and expand your network by meeting other PhD students that are members of IDA.

Facilitator:
The workshop is facilitated by IDA’s work-life consultant, Sita Michael Bormann. Sita holds a master’s degree in sociology within International Development. She has more than 20 years’ experience in mental health/psychosocial wellbeing, coping mechanisms, stress, and crisis management in all spheres of our life (individual, social, study and work). She has worked with these issues in Denmark as well as internationally and has also herself lived and worked abroad for several years.

Practical information:
The workshop lasts for 2 hours and will be held in English. There will be a mix between presentation from the facilitator and reflective exercises / group work with the participants. We thus expect active participation and honest contributions from you.
