Visit to FORCE Technology, Kgs. Lyngby where we will be introduced to the latest developments within:
• virtual hydro- and aerodynamic design tools supporting assessment of safety and energy efficiency of ship designs throughout the design process from the early design phases to the final design. New AI-based tools for early determination of e.g. wind loads on structures and ships will be presented
• simulation tools for design assessment and navigator training supporting accurate determination of weather operating limits, ship size limits and speed limits necessary for safe maneuvering in ports and channels. A special case illustrating the challenges of maneuvering in the Suez channel (with a focus on strong wind, bank - and shallow water – effects) will be presented and discussed – and demonstrated in the simulators later in the evening.
• simulation tools for the offshore wind industry for design optimization and validation of innovative offshore wind foundation concepts and optimisation of installation operations.
The presentations will be complemented by a tour of the facilities at FORCE Technology including the full mission simulators (experience the challenges of navigating the Suez channel!), towing tank and wind tunnels.
Programme
16:30 – 17:00 Arrival, registration and coffee
17.00 – 17:05 Welcome & Introduction by John Koch Nielsen, FORCE Technology
17:05 – 17:25 Virtual Hydro- and Aerodynamic TestLab by Søren Hattel, Team Leader, FORCE Technology
Short introduction to the latest developments within virtual hydro- and aerodynamic design tools supporting assessment of safety and energy efficiency of ship designs throughout the design process from the early design phases to the final design. New AI, database and CFD based tools for early determination of e.g. wind loads on structures and ships will be presented
17:25 – 17:40 Design simulation tools for the offshore wind industry by Jacob Michelsen, Offshore Wind simulation expert, FORCE Technology
Short introduction to simulation tools for the offshore wind industry for design optimization and validation of innovative offshore wind concepts. An example from offshore crane lifting with advanced heave compensating lifting gear will be described.
