Ever since the Judgement of Paris – the one in 1976, not the one referenced by Homer – New World winemakers have been coming for the European, though really French, crown. How close are they almost 50 years later? It will be for you to decide!
You will taste four pairs of wines, each pair a single grape variety with one European and one New World representative. Wines will be tasted blind and the group will decide which shows better. Wines will be controlled for price to avoid unfair comparisons – of course a Grand Cru Burgundy is better than a supermarket Pinot Noir from Chile, but is a 400 kr. Burgundy better than a 400 kr. Sonoma Pinot Noir? (Just an example, of course we’re not going to tell you what the wines will be, or else it would ruin the blind tasting component! But no, the wines won’t quite match those from Paris ‘76 in renown.)
But what is “better”? Is it the same as liking? Same as preference? Exploring the nuances of quality and preference will be another major part of the evening.
This is also an exercise in tasting for place of origin, specifically tasting for climate. It’s one of the easiest parts of blind wine tasting to master – and thus impress your friends.
This event will be presented in English by Dr Janice Wang DipWSET and Domen Prešern DipWSET.
This tasting is open for everyone, but as we sometimes will be very detailed, it does give a better experience, if you have some basic knowledge of wines. A good help is to study this “cheat-sheet” kortlink.dk/2pdep and kortlink.dk/2pdfs, to get a basic understanding of wines, their appearance, aromas, flavours and structure.
It is possible to get a meal at 18:10 - please choose under "tilvalg" - have a look at the possiblities here: https://app.screencast.com/aJoDe29YWCGF3
