Succeed in your first salary negotiation

Succeed in your first salary negotiation
You are well on your way to landing your first job. Even though you are all excitement, it is important to stay focused and find out what you are worth to make sure that you get the right salary.

The workshop is aimed at students and recent graduates, that have to negotiate in English or speak English, and deals specificly with the salary negotiation that takes place upon employment (the job interview).

Salary negotiation is a difficult and intimidating discipline for many, but it is nevertheless important to master if you want to secure good salary conditions. Especially as a new graduate, it is important to set the bar high from the start, as this helps set the direction for the rest of your career.

This workshop will take you through the whole salary negotiation process. First, you will learn how to best prepare for the salary negotiation. A thorough preparation sets you at ease when negotiating your first salary and increases your chances of having a positive experience. You will also learn how pay is structured in both the public and private sectors and get an introduction to a range of IDA’s salary tools, and how these can help you determine your market value and, therefore, your pay move.

In addition, you will find out how a typical salary negotiation takes place on a practical level and be introduced to a number of negotiating techniques you can use in your dialogue with your employer.

Finally, we will give you some tips for rounding off the salary negotiation well and how to prepare for the next salary negotiation.

The workshop is facilitated by two of IDA’s legal advisors and will include both theory and practical tools. It will be possible to ask questions along the way.

You will receive a link to the workshop a couple of days in advance and again on the day. Follow the instructions in the email you receive, and make sure that your audio and camera work.

If you have registered but are unable to attend, please remember to cancel so that someone else can take your place. If you fail to show and do not let us know in advance, you will be charged a no-show fee.

By registering for the workshop, you give IDA permission to send you emails with relevant content before and after the workshop.
