The platform is built on a sophisticated version of group-buying and social selling strategy, spiced up with gamification methods. Group purchasing is not a new phenomenon. What is new is that Pinduoduo is fully integrated into the popular social media platform WeChat, offers access to free products and makes it really entertaining to participate.
