Essentials of Visual Thinking with Yuri Malishenko

Learn how to use simple drawings and sketches to solve complex problems, explain, and communicate better, especially when working remotely.

Illegible handwriting, the fear of drawing or the belief that it’s a tool for designers or artists are often what prevent people from using #visualthinking.
Anyone can learn how to use this powerful tool to improve their communication and productivity as well as helping explain complex things and find effective solutions to entangled problems.
Explore the endless possibilities of visual thinking and sketchnoting techniques by signing up for this online session. Unlike so many others, this one follows the unusual approach where each student is encouraged to take their notes visually by following along with the instructor. It will be fun!

The session suggests real-life examples of the application of the tool to the domain of creating technology and software products that are laden with complexity and ambiguity.
It is time to learn how to use simple drawing and sketching techniques to become a better professional!

What will happen and what will you get?

During the session we will cover the following territory:

● What is visual thinking, why is it so effective and how can you apply it in your job?
● How can it improve your remote collaboration during and in the post-Corona times?
● Learn to draw simply - a handful of versatile icons is all you need to communicate visually!
● Learn to map the organizational complexity - learn how to put visual thinking to clarify the situation around you and your team.
● Learn to map the process - watch visual thinking break complexity down to have a systemic overview of how you and your team work together and identify areas for improvement.
● Have fun!

Requirements:

● No prior drawing experience is required.
● A bunch of A4 paper sheets and a pen. Preferably a technical pen and a couple of brush pens. But if you have no idea what I am talking about, then any pen will do :) You can draw digitally if you prefer to.
● Stable connection to the internet.
● Headset for a better sound experience during the session.
● Some prior Zoom/Mural experience will make it easier for you but is not mandatory.

There will be a lot of questions and answers as we will go through the material, you will meet akin visual thinking enthusiasts and have a lot of fun! On top of that, each participant will get a starting set of quality markers so you do not need to bring any special tools along.
