S/S Skjelskørs historie - den korte
S/S Skjelskør (III) er det tredje dampskib på ruten mellem Skælskør og øerne Agersø og Omø. I 1885 etableredes den første forbindelse med Skjelskør (I), der besejlede ruten indtil 1894, hvor den blev afløst af Skjelskør (II), som var i drift indtil den nuværende S/S Skjelskør (III) overtog sejladsen i 1915.
Det blev til ca. 15.000 ture i 47 år. Den 31. marts 1962 måtte ruten opgives og Skjelskør sejlede sin foreløbig sidste rejse fra Skælskør til Odense, hvor skibet fortøjede ved ophugningsværftets kaj.
Mens skibet lå og ventede på ophugning stiftedes Foreningen til Gamle Skibes Bevarelse, Dansk Veteranskibsklub i et forsøg på at redde dette, et af Danmarks sidste kulfyrede passagerskibe, fra ophugning. Det lykkedes at skaffe de 13.500 kr., ophugningsfirmaet i Odense skulle have for Skjelskør (III), og den 3. september 1962 kunne foreningens bestyrelse overtage S/S Skjelskør (III).
Siden1994 har Skjelskør (III) haft fast station i Frederikssund, hvorfra der hver sommer sejles charterture og rundture på fjordenaf en times varighed. Om vinteren er skibet oplagt i havnen. Den årlige doksætning af skibet foretages i Gilleleje.
En væsentlig indtægtskilde for foreningen har gennem årene været de mange charterture udført siden sejladserne begyndte fra Roskilde i 1968 og siden fortsatte fra Frederikssund.

S/S Skjelskør's history - the short one
S/S Skjelskør (III) is the third steamship on the route between Skælskør and the islands of Agersø and Omø. In 1885, the first connection was established with Skjelskør (I), which sailed the route until 1894, when it was replaced by Skjelskør (II), which was in operation until the current S/S Skjelskør (III) took over the sailing in 1915.
It made approximately 15,000 trips in 47 years. On March 31, 1962, the route had to be abandoned and Skjelskør sailed her last voyage from Skælskør to Odense, where the ship moored at the scrapyard's quay.
While the ship lay waiting to be scrapped, the Danish Veteran Ship Club, the Association for the Preservation of Old Ships, was founded in an attempt to save this, one of Denmark's last coal-fired passenger ships, from being scrapped. It was possible to obtain the 13,500 DKK that the scrapping company in Odense was supposed to have for Skjelskør (III), and on September 3, 1962, the association's board was able to take over S/S Skjelskør (III).
Since 1994, Skjelskør (III) has had a permanent station in Frederikssund, from where charter trips and one-hour round trips on the fjord are sailed every summer. In winter, the ship is moored in the harbor. The annual docking of the ship is carried out in Gilleleje.
A significant source of income for the association over the years has been the many charter trips carried out since the sailing began from Roskilde in 1968 and then continued from Frederikssund.
