We regularly hear that electricity markets need to evolve to better adapt to the large-scale penetration of renewable energy generation, to improve security of supply, etc. Another thing is that we would like electricity markets to be more consumer-centric... But what does that really mean? In addition, this idea of consumer-centricity seems to be in the air in many different business and industry areas. We will explore some of recent approaches to re-think consumer-centricity in electricity energy systems and markets, by looking at some of the current initiatives, as well as research and demonstration experiments going on in Denmark. Based on that, we will look at alternative scenarios for future energy systems and markets, from natural evolution to disruptive proposals.
