Join an interesting event at FORCE Technology focusing on the efficiency of energy saving devices and development potentials offered by modern CFD based simulation tools. Verification of savings due to energy saving devices has traditionally been challenging both in model and full scale, however developments of new simulation tools allow for increased optimisation and integration. Join this event for presentations of the general developments within simulation tools and stories on the practical advances made thereby.
Program
17:00 - 17:05 Welcome by John Koch Nielsen, FORCE Technology
17:05 - 17:30 Energy Saving Devices, introduction by Nikolaj Peter Lemb Larsen, FORCE Technology
Introduction to Energy Saving Devices, model test techniques and experiences.
17:30 – 18:00 Pre-Swirl Fins by Wei Jin, MAN Energy Solutions
This presentation will describe the three phases of the development:
1. Determination of optimal pitch angles of Pre-Swirl Fins by CFD in full and model scale.
2. Towing tank tests and validations.
3. Re-design of the propeller and the 2nd round test & validation.
18:00 – 18:30 Refreshments (sandwiches and soft drinks)
18.30 – 19.15 The development of the VanishProp concept by Morten Wedel, ESMAR Engineering and Borja Legarra Oyarzabal, DTU
The history of the VanishProp development will be presented, including comparisons between model tests, full scale tests and CFD - incl. FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction)
19:15 – 19:45 Owners experience with Energy Saving Devices by Kim Henriksen, Maersk Line.
Maersk has since 2008 been very focused on saving fuel. Part of this effort has included testing of different types of Energy Saving Devices both on new buildings and as retrofits. Some examples on the work done will be presented.
19.45 - 20.00 Closing remarks.
