In 2020, PhD Career Day is an all-day event facilitated by IDA and AU Career Phd & JR, and it takes place on Nov. 18th in Stakladen Aarhus University, Fredrik Nielsens Vej 2-4, 8000 Aarhus C.
The event is open for PhDs and junior researchers from all faculties at Aarhus University with the aim of providing an overview of non-academic career possibilities for PhD students and junior researchers as well as introducing the companies to the talents at Aarhus University.
This year, we have a full day programme, divided in to three sessions:
The Morning session, will include presentations and workshops on different topics related to you job search outside of academia, followed by a Recruitment panel, where you can pose questions and hear more about the "do's and don'ts" when applying for a jobs.
The afternoon session consist of a Career fair,
starting out with a short presentation by the represented companies, before you
are invited to “Meet the companies” in a two hour networking session.
9.30-10.00: Welcome and Introduction of the day (AU Career PhD & JR/ IDA)
10.00-12.30: Career workshops facilitated by IDA
(The morning sessions focus on introducing young researchers to a variety of career related topics such as applications and CV, LinkedIn, the Danish Labour market and Entrepreneurship )
12.30-13.00: Lunch provided by IDA
13.00-14.15: Recruitment panel (AU Career PhD & JR)
(The recruitment panel session focuses on recruitment do's and don'ts and 3 company representatives will share what they look for when hiring researchers for jobs outside academia).
14.30-15.00: Company Presentation
15.00-17.00: "Meet the companies" - Your opportunity to talk to the companies
17.00-18.00: Drinks and snacks
18.00: Thank you and Goodbye
We aim to attract a diversity of both companies and young researchers, so all company types are welcome if they want to know what people with a research background can do for them. Companies are not required to bring job adverts to PhD Career Day or to be recruiting specific profiles at the time of the event.
The event is free of charge.
In 2019, 20 companies were represented while around 185 PhDs students and junior researchers participated. Last year’s participating companies were: AH Diagnostic, Arla Foods, ALK Abello, Bain & Co, Danske Bank, Danske Commodities, DuPont Nutrition & Biosciences, Eriksholm Research Centre, Oticon, Grundfos, Høiberg, Kamstrup, Mjølner Informatics, Nationalbanken, Netcompany, Novo Nordisk, Patrade, Qiagen, Teknologisk Institut, Terma og Vestas.
