Learn how to design digital logic for FPGA and ASIC using Open Source Tools and the Skywater 130nm PDK. We will take a closer look at F4PGA(Symbiflow), Yosys and OpenROAD

The event takes place in ORBIT Event Space: Finlandsgade 20 (building 5122), 8200 Aarhus N. Follow the black building down along the side and you will find the ORBIT Event Space. Let Nichlaes show you the way

At the Copenhagen webinar 31. October 2022 hosted by Rolf and IDA Fremtidsteknologi, Jørgen Kragh Jakobsen gave a 1 hour intro to Open Source Chip Design and promised to follow up with a hands-on workshop.

This is the workshop videolink from CPH->Aarhus where you can try out the tools and flow on your own laptop and your own designs. We will only do Open Source Digital FPGA and ASIC flows.

We will start by installing tools and PDK on Linux or Linux for Windows subsystem.

We will then do an in-depth walk through from HDL (Verilog/VHDL) to GDSII and learn what each intermediate step does to the design.

Basic understanding of how digital logic works would be good - but if you have expericience as a data scientist or from programming you will still have potential to become a chip designer or learn how to accelerate your algorithms on FPGA and ASIC hardware.

One week before the workshop, we will send out a preparation mail with practical info on how to install tools and PDK.

We will serve sandwich, soda and beers during breaks.

ABOUT JØRGEN KRAGH JAKOBSEN

The workshop will be led by Jørgen Kragh Jakobsen (via videolink). Jørgen has 25 years of experience as a chip designer and was part of the startup Merus Audio that has sold millions of chips to the established audio industry.

For the last 1.5 years, Jørgen has worked as a consultant and been active in the open source chip design ecosystem.

This is the Aarhus based sister event for the main event in CPH. See here: https://ida.dk/arrangementer-og-kurser/arrangementer/open-source-chip-design-digital-fpga-and-asic-flow-347370
