Offshore Wind is playing an increasingly important role in the green transition for the world society. Denmark is heading the innovation within offshore wind and this evening we will be presented with the latest trends and innovative concepts in offshore wind.

The program will include presentations of trends, challenges and possibilities for improving the potential of offshore wind, floating offshore wind turbine concepts and a presentation of the new Danish concept of “Energy Islands”.

Programme

16:30 - 16:35 Welcome & Introduction by John Koch Nielsen, FORCE TECHNOLOGY

16:35 – 17:20 Energy Islands: The Next Step towards a CO2 Neutral Society by Mads Krogh, head of section, Danish Energy Agency (Energistyrelsen) and head of the project: Energy Islands

The background and the future plans of the project “Energy Islands in Denmark” will be described through this session

17:20 – 18:05 Innovation in Floating Offshore Wind by Henrik Stiesdal, Inventor and CEO, Stiesdal A/S

Floating wind is set to provide a significant part of renewable energy in the future. Originally, the floating wind industry emerged from the offshore oil and gas industry, thereby inheriting approaches and processes that are not suited for serial manufacturing. Recent innovations have demonstrated that it does not have to be this way and that the truly industrialized manufacturing methods of the wind turbines proper can be transferred to floating foundations. In parallel, significant innovative steps are being taken these years on installation, mooring and cabling.

18:05 – 18:35 Break

18:35 -19:20 Wind Turbine Installation Vessels: Size matters? by Kasper Fønns Bach, Naval Architect, KNUD E. HANSEN

Offshore wind is booming and as project sizes grows, wind turbine installation vessels are expected to be in high demand the coming years. Some of the vessels in the existing fleet are also becoming obsolete because turbines are growing increasingly gigantic. What kind of challenges are faced when buying a ship for the future where cargo sizes are unknown?

19.20 – 19.30 Closing and concluding remarks by John Koch Nielsen

The event is in collaboration with Danish Society for Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Foundation.
