Meetup to Decode NIS2: A Cybersecurity Workshop Intro

This meetup is the first of many to come where we will create a relaxed environment for sharing stories of how to embrace change and make the steps taking ownership of Cybersecurity. This will be done with some group break-out discussions after which the salient points are presented in an informal manner.

This meet up is not designed to be a course (of which there are many) but to be a hub for sharing knowledge and stories in the industry. So that the key take-aways will be sharing these experiences so that we might be better equipped to mitigate the next attempt at breaching our security.

There is likely to be some optional homework as part of the take-aways and build up on in the following meetups and so on.

The goal is to become knowledgeble about cybersecurity and resilient to its threats by sharing experiences and stories - which is ultimately the goal for NIS2!

Agenda

Part 1: Understanding NIS2 & Its Impact

• What is NIS2? 🛡️
• Introduction to the NIS2 Directive and explain its purpose of strengthening cybersecurity across the EU. 
• Who and what is Affected? 🏢
• Detail the new scope of the directive, highlighting the "essential" and "important" sectors and entities it applies to.
• Key Implications & Requirements 📝
• Outline the core obligations of NIS2, including mandatory risk management, stricter reporting, and supply chain security. Why not just be an ostereich and bury your head in the sand? Marginal gains for the business. Reputation.

Part 2: Identify your owner, your assets, and breaking down the risks 

• Risk owner, establish your assets and processes in a "CIA" context. eg. gdpr leaks. 
• Establishing when and how to create an incident and how to effectively mitigate it.
• Making the write-ups for the root cause and sharing knowledge.

Part 3: Practical Application: Testing & Building Resilience (to be done in the next Meetup)

The Role of Penetration Testing 🔍

• Discuss how penetration testing serves as a proactive defense mechanism to uncover vulnerabilities and test security controls. What other tools or mechanisms are available to us to build in resilience?
• Tools & Practices for Personal Resilience 🛠️
• Provide practical, accessible advice and tools for individuals to enhance their personal cybersecurity, such as password managers and good digital hygiene.
