Join us for an interesting evening with updates on the latest news from the 77th IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee as presented by the Danish Maritime Authorities, followed by technical perspectives hereon by Danish Shipping.
After a small break, MAN Energy Solutions will put perspective towards the implications of the life cycle analysis under discussion at the IMO and as part of the FuelEU maritime proposal. The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping will close the evening by presenting their perspectives on the long haul towards carbon neutral shipping based on their industry transition strategy recently released.
Programme
17.00 Welcome by Philip Holt, MAN Energy Solutions & Hans Otto Kristensen, HOK Marineconsult
17.05 Danish Maritime Authority resume on the outcome of MEPC77 by: Palle Kristensen & Thomas Blomgren-Hansen
Brief on the discussions and outcome of MEPC77 and perspectives on the process moving towards the discussion of mid-term measures. What are the major hurdles in the present discussions, what is the direction of the discussion towards tightened operational requirement?
The presentation will touch upon the results of the now split ISWG-GHG’s and the work of DMA towards these meetings.
17.40 Danish Shipping on the perspectives of MEPC77 by Per Winther Christensen - online!
What are the impact of the decisions – and potentially just as important – the postponements of topics at the MEPC to the Danish ship owners? The presentation will provide perspectives towards the discussion at the MEPC of attaining zero green house gas emission by 2050 and the discussion of intermediate targets.
18.00 Break – if physically in the IDA house including a sandwich & drink, if participating virtually including snack and drink at your own choice.
(If the event is virtual only, the break will be shortened to 10 minutes and the programme shortened accordingly).
18.30 MAN Energy Solutions on the implications of the life cycle analysis under discussions by Dorte Kubel
The presentation will uncover the proposal of the EU to the MEPC to consider the life cycle GHG intensity of marine fuels and energy converters and the continuous process herefore. Furthermore, the presentation will consider the possible impacts the FuelEU Maritime proposal by the European Commission, seen from the engine designers perspective. The life cycle approach and associated costs of emissions as proposed can provide valuable indications for selection of future fuels and engines.
19.05 The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping on their industry transition strategy by Claus Graugaard
The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping recently published their Industry Transition Strategy to which the centre will give insights, highlighting the potential pathways for decarbonisation on the long run. Based on todays knowledge the transition strategy seeks to point to critical levers available to impact the direction of the industry and what needs to happen to attain the aim of zero carbon shipping.
