CANCELLED - IDA x DTU Innovation in Engineering - how to apply the learnings from the course into job search and your first job
To land a job where you thrive and feel that you succeed is closely linked to your awareness of both your personal, social and professional skills. the best way to do that, is to use a case - just like the innovation course - and learn from that process.

When companies select for job interviews professional competencies are their primary criteria. At the job interview, your personality and social skills are just as important parameters as the professional ones. However, if your personal and social skills fit like a glove into the team and the role, you are interviewing for, most companies wouldn’t mind if you are missing a bit on your professional level. Whereas not having the soft skills that fit the team and the role would be a deal breaker in most cases.

The importance of soft skills doesn’t end there. In all jobs you will have to collaborate with someone: colleagues, your manager, customers, business partners, etc., and your self-awareness will benefit you in all forms of cooperation, raising the level of the outcome and results from teamwork and be the lever to create relationships that ultimately increase your career prospects and open doors for development that would otherwise be closed. To be able to do that, you need to discover your soft skills, be aware of which situations you master, which ones challenge you and be able to see your own role in a team.

According to IDA's analysis and from experience in the career counselling, newly graduated IDA members in their first job are surprised by how crucial social relations are for professional development and that it is not enough "only" to be able to solve the tasks you have.

That is why we at IDA have designed this workshop, that will make you consciously competent about your personal and social skills. The workshop is based on the innovation processes you have been through with your team in the course "Innovation in Engineering" and is for both innovators or facilitators.

Your take aways:

  • learning about the 3 different types of competence – personal, social and professional
  • awareness of how your personal and social skills interact with your professional skills – especially in team work
  • crowd sourced input for personal and social competence outcome from the course "Innovation in Engineering"

The workshop is facilitated by Sanne Mattebjerg, Career Consultant, IDA and the content will be a mix between theory and short exercises, where the participants' input in the chat helps to increase the output for everyone. There is plenty of room for questions in the chat during the workhops. The presentation, relevant links and tools are sent to the attendees afterwards. The workshop will not be recorded.

If you are a facilitator in the course "Innovation in Engineering" you might want to sign up for a module 2 - a workshop designed for you: IDA X DTU Innovation in Engineering - facilitators only
