Togturen foregår i roligt tempo og varer i alt lidt over 1½ time.

Hedelands Veteranbane is run by the Industrial Railway Club, which aims to preserve locomotives and wagons from the disused ropeways and the many brickworks and industrial railway lines that were common throughout the country until the middle of the last century, but which are now long gone for most of them.

We meet at Hedehusgård station at Brandhøjgårdsvej 2. You can park at the station, where there are also toilets.

The carriage shed will be open to the public between the two departures of the day and the exhibited equipment in the form of carriages and locomotives can be viewed. A knowledgeable guide will be present in the hall.

The train departs at 12:45 from Hedehusgård Station. It is pulled by one of Industribaneklubben's more than 100-year-old steam locomotives that have hauled sugar cane on Lolland or peat in Lille Vildmose in Jutland. The wagons are covered, so in the event of rain you are fairly well protected. However, coal is used for firing, so don't bring your newest and most delicate outerwear along for the ride. Even if the fireman does his best to take care, coal dust and smoke can't be completely
avoided. Perhaps goggles are a good idea if you want to make sure you don't get coal dust in your eyes.

The 5-kilometre long course is located in the former gravel pit area Hedeland, which has been transformed into a leisure area with many different activities. You'll pass lakes and mountains in a natural area so beautiful that it's hard to believe that most of it is man-made. The former desert-like gravel digging areas are now filled with animals and plants. You can even find rare orchids and other exotic plants. On previous trips we have seen pheasants and deer and many other birds in the lakes and on the grasslands.

At the railway's terminus, Fem Ege, we disembark and take a break for about 15 minutes. We get a beer or water, which is handed out from the van, while the locomotive is turned round and put at the other end of the train. And then it's back again. The train journey takes place at a leisurely pace and lasts just over 1½ hours in total. At the end station there is a toilet about 70 metres from the station.

The tour is organised on a Saturday, so families with children (and grandchildren) can participate. The experiences and relatively short duration of the tour make it particularly suitable for children. Food and drinks are welcome to be brought along and consumed during the journey on the train or during breaks. The train brings a parcel van, so prams or pushchairs can be taken on the train.

Each IDA member can register up to six companions.

The train has compartments with two benches in each. Each bench can seat three adults or two adults and two children. If a registration includes two or more children, please inform the organiser by email so that we can make the best possible use of the space on the train. The compartments will be labelled with a number and an overview of the participants' location in the train will be sent by email a day or two before the event so that everyone who wants to sit together can do so. Participants who have registered separately and wish to sit together with others who have also registered separately should notify the organiser by email well in advance.

The participant price includes a ride on the steam train and a beer or soft drink for everyone on the journey.
