Learn to execute a complete Design Thinking process. In this course, you will acquire the tools to develop innovative solutions, enhance products, streamline processes, and create more efficient workflows.
Learn Design Thinking in Practice

The ability to think innovatively and solve problems is crucial, and having the right tools to structure the innovation process is essential. In this comprehensive Design Thinking course, you will learn to create better products, optimize work processes, and make a significant impact in your organization.

The course equips you with practical skills, methods, and experience. Through interactive learning and hands-on work, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Design Thinking process, develop innovative solutions, and test them in real-world scenarios.

You also have the option to add certification, wherein you'll receive an official Design Thinker certificate from DanCert upon completion. This certificate serves as your ticket to a growing community of Design Thinkers and a validation of your ability to apply and lead Design Thinking in practice.

What you'll work on in the Design Thinking in Practice course

The course provides a solid understanding of the creative and problem-solving method that supports innovative processes in organizations. You'll learn to integrate user needs and desires into the development process from the beginning and create solutions that can be tested and validated in practice.

The course is divided into two modules (three with certification add-on), ensuring efficient and targeted learning in Design Thinking. The course focuses on:

  • Design Thinking process and fundamental tools
  • Executing a full Design Thinking process
  • Effective involvement and analysis of users, customers, and domain experts
  • Identification of insights and "jobs-to-be-done" based on data
  • Ideation, prototyping/pretotyping, and testing
  • Assessing and developing business potential in ideas and concepts
  • Definition and planning of minimum viable product

The course is suitable for those involved in product development or process optimization

Requiring no prior knowledge of Design Thinking. It is relevant for anyone looking to structure innovative processes in their organization.

Typical participants may include:

  • Product developers responsible for new product development and/or optimization of existing products
  • Process engineers working on streamlining work processes and improving production methods
  • Project managers aiming to strengthen their ability to lead innovation and/or development projects
  • Leaders responsible for innovation and product development in the company
  • Consultants wanting to offer Design Thinking as a valuable service to their clients

After completing the Design Thinking course, you will be able to:

  • Execute a full Design Thinking process independently
  • Understand and apply a wide range of Design Thinking tools and techniques
  • Identify, understand, and solve problems and needs from the perspective of customers/users
  • Test and validate solutions in practice
  • Generate innovative solutions

The company gains an employee who can:

  • Assess the potential of applying Design Thinking to solve specific problems in the organization
  • Apply the mindset, process, and selected design methods from Design Thinking in practice for developing products, services, and processes
  • Prepare and drive the implementation of Design Thinking in the department/company
  • Conduct a full design process based on Design Thinking and essential tools

Certification Add-On: Become a Certified Design Thinker (Dancert) and Expand Your Professional Network

If you choose the certification add-on, you will be prepared to take the Design Thinking certification. The certification consists of a multiple-choice test and must be completed no later than 5 years from the completion of the course. You can read more about the certification on Dancert's website https://www.dancert.dk/certificeringertypeafproevning/personcertificering-design-thinking/

The certification recognizes the participant's ability to apply Design Thinking skills in practice. To pass the certification, you must demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Defining a design challenge and facilitating a common understanding of the challenge among relevant team members and other stakeholders.
  • Planning and staging design work by planning a design process that fits the purpose and selecting appropriate design methods to support it.
  • Effectively involving and analyzing users, customers, domain experts, and other interdisciplinary collaborators throughout the design process.
  • Collecting and analyzing data with the aim of discovering problems worth solving and providing a detailed understanding and definition of the problem.
  • Creative work involving idea generation and creation of solution concepts based on insight and facilitated creativity.
  • Experimental learning through rapid iterations between prototyping and testing, aiming to find and validate the best possible solutions to the problems worth solving.
  • Evaluating and continuously improving your organization's design thinking maturity to identify and address "anti-patterns" for design thinking.
  • Course Structure for Design Thinking in Practice

The course combines self-paced digital learning with workshops/training on course days. The teaching is case-based, and you will actively engage in a full design process, applying tools, techniques, and methods from the digital module.

    Module 1: Digital Self-Study (Approximately 6 hours)

You will gain a solid foundation in Design Thinking and a deep understanding of the Design Thinking process, along with the key tools and techniques used in the process.

    Module 2 (2 Course Days)

Two days of face-to-face training in executing a full Design Thinking process, from problem identification and ideation to prototyping and testing. You will be trained in using the central tools and techniques at each stage of the design process.

    Certification Option – Additional Benefits

If you have added certification, the course also includes:

Home assignment (minimum 5 hours + 2 hours of coaching with the instructor)

After Module 2, you will work on a self-selected project task with coaching from the instructor. The task involves conducting a mini Design Thinking process in your own company, where you choose the processes, tools, and methods from the course that you want to work with.

    Module 3: Digital Self-Study (Approximately 3 hours)

This digital module is designed to train and prepare you to pass the Design Thinker certification. It covers advanced topics related to the implementation of Design Thinking. The module will address the parts of the certification requirements not covered in the previous modules. Formats include engaging and accessible videos, podcasts, small games, and texts. Additionally, there is an opportunity to try certification-like multiple-choice tasks.
