Cyber-attacks are constantly increasing and can nowadays be seen in our everyday life: from cyber-warfare against a country’s critical infrastructure to ransom attacks against small and medium companies. Cyber-security has traditionally been a passive field: from firewalls and antivirus programs to intrusion detection systems, defenders primarily protect computer networks by building sophisticated “walls.
This talk introduces the field of defensive cyber-deception as an answer to the cat and mouse game of cyber-attackers and defenders. We will cover state of the art deception mechanisms, what we can learn from them, their limitations as well as reflect on how the future of cyber-deception may look.
