Over the past months, pictures from media have shown gigantic container ships arriving at port having stacks of containers hanging outside the ship side, after incident having lost containers at sea. For obvious reasons, containers lost at sea represents a potential danger, not only to ship safety when floating in the water. But certainly, also to the environment when containing hazardous materials and/or plastic.
Looking at 2020 and Q1 of 2021, incidents of containers lost at sea have not been kind to the statistics at all, with a total number of around 3,500 according to the media. While still awaiting the accident investigation reports giving the root causes for the incidents, concern is raised, whether industry have a general structural problem with the operation and stowage of the containers. At the seminar we will look at all aspects related to preventing the containers falling into sea in the first place, but also mitigating the consequences when they do.
