Programme:
16.30-18.00 Welcome and lecture on India today by Peter Johansen, Asia House
18:30-21:00 Delicious dinner, Indian music and network
Peter Johansen from Asia House will present "Ups & downs in Indian economy". How did red-tape pave the way for the Indian IT-revolution? How did 40 tons of gold, smuggled out of the country by the Reserve Bank of India trigger the great reforms of 1991? And how could a copy of the Morris Oxford from 1957 remain the king of the Indian highways for over 50 years?
In this presentation we take a closer look at Indian economy and society: Where did it come from? Where is it going? And what can we expect? Already the world’s largest democracy, the UN expects India to be the world's most populous nation and fourth largest economy by 2022. Add to this a large and growing English speaking middleclass with strong ties to the west; we have all the reason to keep an eye on India, also here in Denmark.
Peter Johansen is author of the book "Brudstykker af det moderne Indien" (2017) and project manager at Asia House. Previously freelance consultant on India and external lecturer at Aarhus university.
